Tracking an ANU Diploma application through to its Bachelor pathway
ANU Pathway Diploma applications are packaged with a Bachelor pathway, while progression depends on meeting the aligned degree’s GPA requirement.
Track an ANU Diploma application alongside its intended Bachelor degree, with separate records for admission progress and the academic conditions for progression. A packaged application does not mean the later Bachelor requirements have already been met. Keep the target degree and its required Diploma GPA visible throughout the process.
Start with the Diploma and its intended Bachelor degree
The Australian National University’s Pathway Diplomas are nested programs: a standalone AQF Level 5 qualification within a pathway to an aligned Bachelor degree. International applicants must apply for the packaged Diploma–Bachelor sequence; the Diploma cannot be pursued with a standalone, one-year study intention.
For your target list, record:
- The exact Diploma name.
- The intended Bachelor degree.
- Whether that degree is aligned with the Diploma.
- The GPA required for progression.
- The intended intake.
- Any conditions stated in the offer.
This keeps a general goal such as “study politics at ANU” tied to a specific progression requirement. Within the same Diploma, different Bachelor destinations can require different GPAs.
Keep application progress separate from study conditions
Use separate fields for what has happened to the application and what still needs to be achieved academically. The labels below are suggested tracking fields, rather than ANU portal status names.
| Tracking field | What to record |
|---|---|
| Application route | UAC or ANU Application Manager / Studylink |
| Submission | Submission date and application reference |
| Admission decision | The decision received and its date |
| Offer conditions | Each stated condition and whether it remains outstanding |
| Packaged enrolment documents | The Diploma CoE and Bachelor CoE |
| Bachelor progression | Target degree, required GPA and eventual Diploma results |
Record an offer when it arrives. Mark its conditions as satisfied only when the corresponding evidence is available. Leave future Bachelor progression requirements outstanding until the relevant academic results have been assessed.
For onshore applicants completing Australian Year 12, the IB or NCEA Level 3, the application route is UAC. Other international applicants apply through ANU Application Manager / Studylink.
The listed international application deadline for Semester 1, 2027 is 15 December. Pathway Diplomas currently have a Semester 1 intake only.
Record the GPA for the exact Bachelor destination
The Diploma-to-Bachelor GPA requirements differ by destination.
| Pathway Diploma | Aligned Bachelor destination | Required Diploma GPA |
|---|---|---|
| Diploma of Business and Economics | Bachelor of Accounting; Bachelor of Business Administration; Bachelor of Commerce; Bachelor of Economics; Bachelor of Finance | 4.0 |
| Diploma of Computing | Bachelor of Computing | 4.0 |
| Diploma of Politics and International Relations | Bachelor of Asian Studies | 4.0 |
| Diploma of Politics and International Relations | Bachelor of International Relations; Bachelor of International Security Studies; Bachelor of Political Science; Bachelor of Public Policy | 4.6 |
Keep the degree name beside the GPA in your tracker. A student targeting the Bachelor of Asian Studies has a different GPA requirement from a student targeting the Bachelor of International Relations, even though both begin with the Diploma of Politics and International Relations.
The aligned pathway provides one year of credit, equivalent to 48 units, on articulation. That credit arrangement should remain attached to the aligned degree in your records.
Track entry requirements before submission
Diploma admission and Bachelor progression involve different academic measures. The Diploma entry threshold starts at a selection rank of 70; the later pathway requirements use the student’s Diploma GPA.
Students with a selection rank of 80 or above should apply for a Bachelor degree and cannot commence a Pathway Diploma. Meeting the Diploma’s minimum entry threshold does not itself establish that an application will receive an offer.
Direct English entry requires IELTS 6.5 overall, with no band below 6.0, or equivalent. Keep English evidence separate from academic evidence so an outstanding requirement remains easy to identify.
Keep costs and commencement details visible
Each Pathway Diploma runs for 12 months full-time across two semesters, comprising eight courses. Delivery is in person at ANU’s Acton Campus in Canberra; there is no remote option.
The 2027 indicative annual tuition fee is AUD 57,640 for each Pathway Diploma. Record this as Diploma tuition, with its year and indicative status. It is not the total cost of the Diploma–Bachelor sequence.
The packaged arrangement involves one CoE for the Diploma and another for the Bachelor, supporting one visa application. Track both documents separately. Financial capacity planning must cover the Diploma–Bachelor sequence.
Update the pathway record if the target degree changes
After the Diploma, students may apply for a non-aligned Bachelor degree. ANU assesses that application as it would an application from a student who has completed one year of undergraduate study at ANU.
Credit is assessed case by case. One year of credit is not guaranteed when changing programs.
If your target changes, update the degree name. Reassess the progression requirements. Record credit as unresolved until the assessment is available. This prevents the original pathway’s GPA and credit arrangement from being carried over to a different degree.
A useful application record shows both the latest admission decision and the remaining conditions for the intended Bachelor pathway. Keeping those distinct makes it easier to see what has been completed and what still depends on future results.
